Your Pelvic Floor Deserves More Attention: Where to Start

Your Pelvic Floor Deserves More Attention: Where to Start

When was the last time you thought about your pelvic floor?

For most of us, the answer is probably: not very often.

We hear about skincare, nutrition, movement and sleep as important parts of looking after ourselves, but pelvic wellness doesn’t always get the same attention. And yet, the pelvic floor is part of our everyday lives, whether we’re walking, exercising, sitting, going to the bathroom, navigating our menstrual cycle or recovering after pregnancy.

At NomiWave, we believe pelvic wellness deserves a place in everyday self-care.

So, what is the pelvic floor?

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles and connective tissues that sits at the bottom of your pelvis. It supports the pelvic organs and plays a role in several everyday bodily functions.

But just like any other part of your body, these muscles can experience tension, fatigue and changes over time.

Pregnancy and postpartum recovery can be particularly significant periods of change. But pelvic wellness isn’t only relevant after having a baby. Stress, prolonged sitting, physical activity, hormonal changes and simply becoming more aware of your body can all influence how your pelvic area feels.

Tension isn’t always obvious

When we think about muscle tension, we often imagine something obvious, like tight shoulders after a long day.

Pelvic floor tension can be much less noticeable.

You might simply feel like you’re having difficulty fully relaxing. You might notice discomfort when sitting for long periods, during certain activities, or when trying to become more aware of the muscles in this area.

Sometimes, you may not even realise you’re holding tension until you intentionally slow down and pay attention.

That’s why learning to notice your body’s signals can be such a valuable part of your pelvic wellness journey.

Your pelvic floor isn’t something you need to “fix”

There’s a lot of language online that makes women’s bodies sound like problems waiting to be solved.

We don’t want to add to that.

Pelvic wellness isn’t about having a “perfect” pelvic floor. It’s about becoming more aware of your body, understanding what feels comfortable for you and finding ways to support relaxation and wellbeing.

Your body changes throughout your life. Your pelvic wellness journey can change with it.

Where can you start?

You don’t need to completely overhaul your routine.

Start by simply paying attention.

1. Notice how your body feels

Take a moment during the day to check in with yourself. Are you consciously holding tension anywhere? What happens when you take a slow, relaxed breath?

There doesn’t need to be a right or wrong answer. Awareness comes first.

2. Make relaxation part of your routine

Relaxation isn’t only about lying down at the end of the day.

Try creating small moments where you can slow your breathing, release unnecessary tension and give yourself a few uninterrupted minutes.

3. Learn more about your pelvic floor

Understanding your body can make it easier to recognise what feels normal for you and what doesn’t.

There is no need to become an expert overnight. Start with simple, reliable information and build from there.

4. Give yourself time

Whether you’re postpartum, returning to exercise, navigating a stressful period or simply becoming more aware of your pelvic wellness, there is no universal timeline.

Your body deserves patience.

A more comfortable conversation

Pelvic wellness has traditionally been something many women don’t talk about until they’re experiencing discomfort or a specific concern.

We’d like to see that change.

You shouldn’t have to wait until something feels wrong before you start learning about your pelvic floor.

It can simply become another part of taking care of yourself, just like movement, rest, skincare or nutrition.

That’s the idea behind NomiWave.

We’re creating a space for pelvic wellness, relaxation, education and support, with gentle tools designed to assist women on their individual journeys.

Because your pelvic floor is part of your body.

And your body deserves your attention.
